Cavalier Wrestling Finishes 2-2 at Virginia Duals

Hampton, Va. – – Eric Albright and Peter Ferrara each posted perfect 2-0 records on the day as the University of Virginia Wrestling Team wrapped up competition at the Virginia Duals Saturday. The Cavaliers went 1-1 on day two and finished 2-2 in the tournament. UVa defeated Bloomsburg, 22-12, before falling to North Carolina, 20-18.

Albright paced the Cavaliers earning both wins at 133 pounds. He finished the tournament a perfect 4-0. Brent Jones recorded a 3-1 record at 197 pounds for Virginia.

Against Bloomsburg, the Cavaliers wons six of the 10 bouts on their way to the victory. Albright defeated Rick Donald, 2-0, for his third win of the tournament. Ferrara was the highlight for the Cavaliers against Bloomsburg. He earned an 11-0 major decision win over Joe Hasseman at 141 pounds. Anthony Burke, Mike Grogan, Brent Jones and Nick Smith also earned wins for the Cavaliers.

Against North Carolina, the Tar Heels won six of the 10 bouts. Drew DiPasquale earned the only fall for the Cavaliers when he pinned UNC’s Chris Ramos at 8:52 at 149 pounds. Albright knocked off Jared Royer, 5-4, and Ferrara won by forfeit for the Cavaliers. Mike Sewell defeated Brian Baglio at 157 pounds, 10-6.

The Cavaliers will next be in action next Sun. Jan 22 at noon, when they host Ohio State in their home opener. It will be the first of a three-match home-stand for the Cavaliers. UVa will open ACC competition the following weekend Jan. 27-28 against UNC and Virginia Tech.
