Virginia Wrestling Set to Host Ohio State Sunday

Charlottesville, Va. – – The Virginia Wrestling Team opens up its home season when the Cavaliers host Ohio State Sunday at noon at Memorial Gymnasium. The Cavaliers are 5-3 in dual meet competition this season after going 2-2 at the Virginia Duals last weekend.
Red-shirt freshman Eric Albright leads the team with a 20-6 record. Albright has won his last eight matches including going a perfect 4-0 at the Virginia Duals last weekend Sophomore Anthony Burke and freshman Brent Jones each have 15 wins on the season. Burke was named ACC Wrestler of the Week on Jan. 9 after a 4-0 week in which he posted two pins and two major decisions. Albright and Jones each bring 7-1 dual records into today’s match while Kyle Narkiewicz at 184 pounds is 6-1 in dual meet competition.
The Buckeyes (3-6) look to bounce back after falling 31-7 on the road at No. 15 Indiana. Buckeyes T.J. Enright and J Jaggers recorded wins at 141 and 149 to improve their dual marks to 6-3 and 8-1, respectively. Ohio State features three players ranked in the USAToday/NWCA rankings, the Buckeyes’ J Jaggers is 14th at 149 pounds and Kirk Nail is 15th at heavyweight. Jaggers and Nail also are eighth and 11th, respectively, in the Amateur Wrestling News polls.
In the all-time series history, Ohio State leads Virginia 3-0. The Buckeyes and the Cavaliers first met in 1973 and recently squared off last season. In 2005, Ohio State won 36-6 in Columbus.
