CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – – Drew DiPasquale and Kyle Narkiewicz each went 2-0 on the day and the Virginia Wrestling Team ran its winning streak to five consecutive dual meets as the Cavaliers defeated Ohio, 18-15, and James Madison, 25-18, Sunday afternoon at Memorial Gym. Ohio defeated James Madison, 38-7, in the first event of the Tri-Meet.

DiPasquale earned a decision over Ohio’s Aaron Gornoll, 7-5, and pinned JMU’s Jeff Jacobs at 3:58. Narkiewicz posted a 5-3 decision over Ohio’s Brian Cesear and won 12-5 over JMU’s Jason Chalfant.

Against Ohio, Eric Albright, DiPasquale, Damian Johnson, Narkiewicz and Nick Smith were are all victorious. Ohio took a 3-0 lead after Caleb Metcalf defeated Anthony Burke, 6-4, at 125 pounds. Virginia tied the meet, 3-3, when Albright edged Terry Jackson, 7-4.

Ohio regained the lead when Frank Brown defeated Peter Ferrrara, 5-3, to make it 6-3 in favor of the Bobcats. Virginia tied it once more after a win by DiPasquale at 149 pounds, but Jake Frerichs won at 157 pounds putting Ohio ahead, 9-6. The Cavaliers took their first lead of the meet when Johnson pinned Mike Grandominico at 4:05 putting UVa ahead, 12-9, but the Bobcats won at 174 pounds tying it, 12-12. After the teams split at 184 pounds and 197 pounds, Smith used a takedown in the third period to edge Ohio’s Marcus Adelman, 3-1, and give UVa an 18-15 win.

Against James Madison, Nick Alparone, DiPasquale and Brent Jones all recorded falls and Mike Grogan had a major decision in the 25-18 UVa win. Virginia fell behind early when Thang Ho at 125 pounds and Richie Gebauer at 133 pounds earned decisions putting JMU ahead, 6-0, Alparone tied the meet when he pinned Brian Kibler at 2:50 in period one. UVa took a 12-6 lead with DiPasquale’s pin of Jacobs. JMU’s Scott Yorko then pinned Kyle Artusio at 1:56. The Dukes added their second straight pin when Mike Meagher posted a fall over Conor Manley at 3:25 to get within16-15, but Narkiewicz won 12-5 and Jones pinned John Bauman at 197 pounds at 2:59 in the first period putting the Cavaliers ahead, 25-15. JMU’s Chris Civitan won the heavyweight bout to make for final 25-18 score.
