NC State Wrestlers Slip By Virginia, 22-15

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State won six of the 10 bouts and held on to defeat the Virginia Wrestling Team Saturday afternoon at Reynolds Coliseum, 22-15. Nick Alparone, Damian Johnson, Mike Grogan and Nick Smith were all victorious for the Cavaliers (10-5, 2-1 ACC).
The Wolfpack led all afternoon in the team scoring, but Joe Caramanica’s 13-2 major decision over Drew DiPasquale at 149 and Hamarah’s pin of Mike Sewell at 157 pounds expanded NC State’s lead to 16-3 with four bouts to go. Ryan Goodman’s 5-2 decision over Brent Jones at 197 clinched the bout for the Pack.
Alparone earned a 9-5 decision over Jalil Dozier at 141 pounds and Johnson defeated Obie Simpson, 7-2. Grogan shut out Rick Brownlee, 3-0. Smith earned a 3-1 decision over Jainor Palma.
Virginia will wrestle at Duke at 7 p.m. Saturday night.
