SEATTLE, Wash. – The Virginia men’s tennis team snapped a three-match losing streak with a 4-0 win over Colorado Sunday night in its final match at the USTA-ITA National Team Indoor Championship at the Seattle Tennis Center. The win improves the Cavaliers’ record to 8-5 on the season.

The Cavaliers opened the match strong, taking the doubles point for a 1-0 lead. Rylan Rizza (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) and Nick Meythaler (Owensboro, Ky.) cruised to an 8-1 victory over Jan Zelezny and Marek Dvorak at No. 2 doubles, while the team of Darrin Cohen (Lafayette, Calif.) and Doug Stewart (Malibu, Calif.) defeated Chad Tsuda and Peter Bjork 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, the Cavaliers won three matches in straight sets to clinch the victory. Stewart scored a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles over Bjork. Cohen defeated Dvorak 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) defeated Eric Molnar at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-4.

The Cavaliers will return home for a doubleheader at the Indoor Tennis Stadium at the Boar’s Head Sports Club on Friday, February 24. Virginia opens ACC play in the first match, when they host conference newcomer Boston College at noon. In the nightcap, the Cavaliers host Old Dominion at 6:00 p.m.
