MATJAM 2006 Tournament Central

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – – The Virginia Wrestling Team looks for the program’s fourth ever Atlantic Coast Conference title when the Cavaliers take part in Mat Jam 2006 held at the Virginia Military Institute Cameron Hall Saturday. Virginia finished the 2005-06 regular season tied with Maryland for first place and looks for its first team title under head coach Lenny Bernstein.

Virginia is led by freshman Eric Albright, who is 26-8 overall at 133 pounds. Sophomore Anthony Burke is 20-13 on the season at 125 pounds while Brent Jones (20-11) at 197 pounds and Kyle Narkiewicz (20-9) at 184 pounds both also have 20 wins. Albright, Burke, Mike Grogan (18-14) at 174 pounds and Damian Johnson (19-10) at 165 pounds all posted 4-1 records during the ACC dual season.

Burke, Albright and Jones have all earned ACC Wrestler of the Week honors this season.

Rounding out the Cavaliers’ lineup will be freshman Nick Alparone (10-13) at 141 pounds, red-shirt freshman Drew DiPasquale at 149 pounds, freshman Mike Sewell (10-14) at 157 pounds and Nick Smith (19-11).

All 10 league individual champions will receive a berth in the tournament, set for March 16-18 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
