Virginia Golfers Finish Fourth at LSU Classic

Baton Rouge, LA – The 15th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team placed fourth at the 18-team LSU Classic Sunday in Baton Rouge. The Cavaliers shot 11-over 279 during the final round for a three-day total of 894.

Auburn won the team title by two strokes at 873. The fifth-ranked Lady Tigers were led by Nicole Hage’s third place finish at 3-under 213. LSU placed second at 875 and Vanderbilt managed to pass Virginia during the final round after shooting 9-under 279. The Commodores finished five strokes off the lead at 878.

Virginia was led by Leah Wigger’s 10th-place finish. She shot 3-over 219 during the final round to finish at 3-over 219. It was her fourth top-10 showing this year. Freshman Jennie Arseneault also carded a 75 Sunday to place 11th at 220.

Lauren Mielbrecht had Virginia’s best closing round score with a 1-over 73 to move up to 30th overall at 227. Rachel Smith was one shot behind her in 36th place. Sally Shonk was 61st at 235.

Carly Truitt, playing as a non-scoring individual, shot 74 during the final round and was 15th at 222.

Vanderbilt’s Jacqui Concolino took medalist honors by one stroke. She posted rounds of 75, 68 and 67 to finish at 6-under 210. LSU’s Melissa Eaton was second at 211. She carded a 72 during the final round.
