The loss drops the Cavaliers’ record to 6-5 on the season, 1-2 in the ACC. The Yellow Jackets improved to 10-2 on the year, and remained unbeaten in the conference (3-0).

The Cavaliers took the early 1-0 lead by taking the doubles point. At No. 1, the No. 33 ranked team of Kristen James (Clifton, Va.) and Lori Stern (Ojai, Calif.) upset No. 12 ranked Lyndsay Shosho and Kristi Miller 9-8. In the tiebreaker, the Cavalier team fought off three match points against before winning the tiebreaker 12-10.

In singles, the Yellow Jackets took the first three matches off the courts, all in straight sets to take a 3-1 lead in the dual match. At No. 4 singles, Stern rallied for a three set win over McCray, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Georgia Tech then clinched the match at No. 2 singles, where No. 56 ranked Shosho rallied to top James in three sets. In the last match on the courts, Lindsey Pereira (Arlington, Texas) rallied for a three set win over No. 74 ranked Anderson, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.

“It was a very good match and I am proud of our effort,” said Virginia head coach Mark Guilbeau. “We were beaten by a better team today, but certainly we made them earn it. We have obviously made tremendous progress and I know that will continue. I think we will work very hard as a team to learn now how to make the little details on and off the court that ultimately will make the difference in matches like this.”

The Cavaliers return home on Wednesday, March 15, as they play their first outdoor home match of the season against No. 26 TCU. Match time at the Snyder Tennis Center is 2:00 p.m.
