Virginia defenders Jessy Morgan and Jen Holden were both honored as national athletes of the week as the Cavaliers went 2-0 last week, defeating William & Mary 16-5 and Princeton 16-3 in a pair of road games. Morgan was named the National Player of the Week by insidelacrosse.com while Holden was tabbed as the National Rookie of the Week by womenslacrosse.com.

The Virginia defense held the Tribe and the Tigers to a combined eight goals, including blanking Princeton in the second half of the game while allowing the Tribe only one goal in the opening stanza of that contest. Morgan shut down the top attacker in both games, allowing only one goal to the opposition’s top scorer. Holden led the team in ground balls, scooping up five in the William & Mary game before collecting six in the win over Princeton. She also added two caused turnovers and two draw controls to help Virginia earn valuable possessions.

The Cavaliers return to action on Wednesday, March 29 as they host the Dukes of James Madison. The game is the 500th varsity contest in school history.
