Charlottesville, VA – The 17th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team will play in the ninth annual Bryan National Collegiate this weekend, March 31 through April 2, just outside of Greensboro. The 54-hole event will be contested at Bryan Park’s par-72. 6,210-yard Champions Course. The tournament is hosted by Wake Forest and UNC Greensboro.

This year’s field consists of 10 teams ranked in Golf Week’s top 20 including top-ranked Duke. Also competing in this year’s event is No. 6 Georgia, No. 8 Purdue, No. 11 Wake Forest, No. 12 California, No. 13 Tennessee, No. 14 Vanderbilt, No. 16 Florida, No. 20 Oklahoma State, North Carolina, LSU, South Carolina, NC State, Furman, UNC Wilmington, College of Charleston and UNC Greensboro.

Five-time defending champion Duke looks to continue its impressive run at the Bryan. Last year, the Blue Devils beat Tennessee by 10 shots en route to capturing the team title. Sophomore Brittany Lang took home the individual title with an even par score of 216.

Virginia’s lineup will include Leah Wigger, Carly Truitt, Jennie Arseneault, Rachel Smith and Lauren Mielbrecht. Wigger leads the team with a 73.48 stroke average and has been the Cavaliers’ top finisher in five of seven tournaments. She’s managed a top-10 outing six times this season.

The Cavaliers tee off starting at 9:18 a.m. on Friday and will be paired with Georgia and Purdue.

The Bryan National Collegiate is playing the unique role of preview. The 2006 NCAA Women’s East Regional is also being contested at Bryan Park from May 11-13. Wake Forest will be the host institution for the event.
