CHARLOTTESVILLE – Two members of the Virginia women’s tennis team were selected to compete in the NCAA Individual Championships, to be held May 23-28 at the Taube Tennis Center on the campus of Stanford University. Fourth-years Kristen James (Clifton, Va.) and Lori Stern (Ojai, Calif.) were among the 32 teams selected to compete in the NCAA Doubles Championship.

Stern and James are currently ranked No. 23 nationally in the ITA doubles rankings. They have a 20-6 record this season as team, including a 15-6 mark in dual matches. The duo has recorded 50 career wins as a team, which ranks third in school history.

The team becomes the fifth Cavalier team to be selected to the NCAA Doubles Championship. The last time Virginia had a team chosen for NCAA play was in 2003 when Henriette Williams and Jennifer Tuchband competed. The best result at the tournament for a Cavalier team was in 1994 when Alison Cohen and Ly-Lan Schofield reached the second round.

James, Stern, and the rest of the Cavaliers (13-9) return to action next weekend when the travel to Durham, N.C. for the NCAA Team Tournament. Virginia will meet Alabama in a first round match on May 13 at the Ambler Tennis Center on the campus of Duke University.
