CHARLOTTESVILLE – The University of Virginia athletics department announced on Thursday (May 11) plans to bolster its radio coverage in the Lynchburg and Roanoke markets by adding two Centennial Broadcasting Company FM radio stations to its network partnership.

WZZU-FM (97.9) and WZZI-FM (101.5) join the Virginia Sports Network’s lineup beginning this fall. The stations will carry all UVa programming, including football and basketball games, the Cavalier Minute and Cavalier Call-In, the Monday night talk show with Virginia coaches.

“The addition of these stations is important for us,” said Jon Oliver, executive associate director of athletics at UVa. “We are adding two highly-rated, quality FM radio stations with wonderful signals to our broadcast lineup. This is a significant addition in terms of our game day and special programming coverage.”

“The Virginia Cavaliers have a quality sports program and radio network and we welcome the opportunity with open arms,” added Harry Williams, Centennial’s market manager for Lynchburg and Roanoke. “We feel we can bring a lot to the table in terms of coverage, ratings and promotion. We’re excited about the relationship.”

Virginia kicks off its 2006 football season on September 2 in Pittsburgh, Pa., against the University of Pittsburgh.
