Virginia’s Ryan Foster ran a 14:02.83 in the 5000m race, finishing as ECAC Runner-up and posting the fastest time at Virginia since 1987. Joining Foster on the medal stand was Billie Jo Grant, who took runner-up honors in the discus (51.47m), and Kara Scanlin, who finished third in the 10K with a personal best 34:38.57. Through the first day of competition at the IC4A/ECAC Championships, Virginia’s women sit in third place while the men are in fourth overall.

Foster’s time is an NCAA Regional qualifying time; he joins teammates Andy Biladeau, Andrew Dumm and Jan Foerster as 5K qualifiers for the NCAA East Regional. Foster’s time makes him the fourth-fastest performer in school history; only three men have run a sub-14 minute 5K in school history.

Foerster joined Foster as an All-East selection with his season-best steeplechase, running a 9:04.65, which earned him fifth place overall.

Scanlin’s time of 34:38.57 moves her up the chart to the eighth-best performer in school history. Her third place time gave UVa two point scorers in the event as Laura Hodges took eighth with her 36:24.10.

Katie Read also ran a PR, covering the 5K in 16:59.00 and taking eighth, earning her All-East honors along with Scanlin and Hodges.
