No. 3 Seed UVa to Face No. 6 Seed FSU in 2006 ACC Tournament Opener

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – – Virginia has clinched the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 seed Florida State at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning in the 2006 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament opener at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Fla. The Cavaliers earned the third seed after finishing the ACC regular season, 21-9, which was a school record for conference wins. The Seminoles earned the sixth seed after picking up the tiebreaker over NC State and Wake Forest.

Clemson enters the tournament as the No. 1 seed after posting a 24-6 league record and winning the ACC Atlantic Division. North Carolina won the ACC Coastal Division posting a 22-8 conference record. Georgia Tech (19-11) earned the No. 4 seed while Miami (17-13) is the fifth seed. Florida State, NC State and Wake Forest all finished in a tie at 16-13. The Seminoles went 3-2 against the Wolfpack and Demon Deacons to earn the No. 6 seed. NC State was 3-3 against the two teams for the No. 7 seed and Wake Forest earned the eighth seed going 2-3 against NC State and FSU.
