Wigger Leads Large Group of UVa Golfers at North and South

Pinehurst, NC – Virginia senior golfer Leah Wigger shot 73 to finish tied for 18th after the first round of stroke play at the 104th North and South Women’s Amateur Championship taking place in Pinehurst on the Resort’s No. 8 and No. 2 courses. Wigger leads a group of six UVa player entered in the event. Three players are tied for first at 70.

Carly Truit and Rachel Smith both carded 75s to tie for 36th while Lindsay Robinson is 43rd at 76 and Kristen Simpson, fresh off her runner-up finish at the Virginia State Amateur, is 58th at 77. Sally Shonk was 69th at 78 in the 132-player field.

The tournament’s second round of stroke play takes place Tuesday and then the field will but cut and match play will run through July 23.
