The North and South

Pinehurst, NC — Half of the six Virginia golfers competing at the 104th North and South Women’s Amateur Championship advanced to the match play portion of the prestigious event in Pinehurst, N.C.

Cavalier senior Leah Wigger lead the UVa golfers with a 13th-place finish after 36 holes of stroke play. She had rounds of 73 and 74 for a two-day total of 147. Carly Truitt was 37th at 153 and Lindsay Robinson made the cut by placing 49th at 155. Duke sophomore Jennie Lee took stroke play medalist honors by shooting 140.

Rachel Smith, Kristen Simpson and Sally Shonk failed to finish in the top half of stroke play and advance to match play. Smith and Simpson tied for 72nd at 158 and Shonk was 80th at 159.

In the first round of match play Wednesday, Robinson will face Mandy Goins at 8:02 a.m. Truitt will tee off at the same time against Kristin Ingram. Wigger faces Michelle Jarman at 10:58 a.m.

Match play will run through July 23.
