COMITAN, Mexico – Former Cavalier tennis player Darrin Cohen (Lafayette, Calif.) captured his first professional tournament championship, winning the doubles title of the Futures Event last week in Comitan, Mexico. Cohen teamed with former Wake Forest standout Brett Ross to win the doubles title at the tournament.

In the first round of the tournament, Cohen and Ross defeated the No. 4 seeded team of Michael Johnson and Lazaro Navarro-Batles 6-3, 0-6, 6-4. In the quarterfinals, the team downed Anthony Law and William Lynch 6-2, 6-2. Cohen and Ross upset the No. 1 seed in the draw, Dane Fernandez and David To, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 in the semifinals. In the final, they defeated third-seeded Rafael Areval-Gonzalez and Tiago Lopes, 7-5, 6-1 to capture the title.

Cohen is playing the Futures Event this week in Tuxtla Gutierrez, Mexico.
