North Plains, OR – A trio of Virginia golfers made it through 36 holes of stroke play to advance to the match play portion of the U.S. Women’s Amateur in North Plains, Ore. Junior Lauren Mielbrecht (Gulf Stream, Fla.) had the best finish in stroke play by finishing at 3-over 145. She shot 3-over 74 Tuesday after carding a round of even par 71 Monday. Mielbrecht finished 12th overall.

Sophomore Jennie Arseneault (Grinnell, Iowa) shot 1-over 72 Tuesday to finish 31st overall at 5-over 147. Wigger (Louisville, Ky.) had a more harrowing day, shooting 8-over 79 for a two-day total of 9-over 151. She tied for 60th and made the cut by a single stroke. Sally Shonk (Noblesville) failed to advance with a 36-hole score of 168 after shooting 13-over 84 both days.

Match play runs through Sunday and will be televised by The Golf Channel. The tournament is taking place at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.
