Arseneault Moves into Round of 32 at U.S. Amateur

North Plains, OR – Virginia sophomore golfer Jennie Arseneault needed an extra hole of play, but managed to move into the second round of match play at the 2006 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship taking place at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Ore. Arseneault defeated Laura Luethke of Fresno, Calif., in 19 holes.
Arseneault will face UCLA sophomore Tiffany Joh in Thursday’s second round at 9:20 a.m. PT. Joh is the tournament’s No. 2 seed and the reigning U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links champion.
Cavalier senior Leah Wigger was pitted against No. 1 seed Paige Mackenzie and was eliminated 3 and 2 by the U.S. Curtis Cup member who was a two-time All-American at Washington.
Virginia junior Lauren Mielbrecht (Gulf Stream, Fla.), the No. 14 seed, was defeated 1 up by Mina Harigae of Monterey, CA.
Match play runs through Sunday and is being televised by The Golf Channel.
