North Plains, OR – Virginia sophomore golfer Jennie Arseneault missed a three-foot par putt on the 19th hole of play to fall to Lindy Duncan in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur Championship. It marked the third time during the tournament that Arseneault was forced to play an extra hole in the match play format at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.
It appeared the match was headed for a 20th hole after Arseneault made a terrific play out of a greenside bunker to within three feet of the cup and Duncan left her birdie putt a foot short. Duncan will face Kimberly Kim in the semifinals.
Arseneault was 2-up after 12 holes in the match before Duncan won three of the next four holes. Arseneault took the par-4 17th hole and both players carded a par on the final hole to finish all square through 18 holes.
Arseneault advanced to the 106th U.S. Amateur Championship after qualifying and playing in the U.S. Open earlier this year.
