Virginia’s Traci Ragukas, a first-year forward for the Cavaliers, has been named the National Rookie of the Week by womensfieldhockey.com. She is the first player in school history to earn this honor.

Ragukas helped the Cavaliers upset No. 7 Indiana as she scored the second and third goals of the game to give UVa a 3-1 lead early in the second half. After falling behind 1-0 in the first, Virginia tied the game on a short corner goal and then minutes later Ragukas gave the Hoos the lead for good as she converted a Mia Link pass. Seconds into the second half she scored on a loose ball in front of the cage, pulling the ball out and around the Indiana keeper for the insurance goal Virginia would eventually need.

The Cavaliers return to action as they host Ohio University on Friday, Sep. 1 at University Hall Turf Field before welcoming No. 5 Old Dominion on Sunday, Sep. 3.
