Monica Wright Named ACC Rookie of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia freshman Monica Wright (Woodbridge, Va.) earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced on Monday.
Wright had an outstanding week in helping UVa to two home wins. In the 71-65 win over Temple, the guard paced the `Hoos in the close game with a career-best 26 points. With the score tied with just 3:49 to go in the game, Virginia finished the game with a 10-4 run, sparked by six of Wright’s points. She also tallied career bests of four assists and four steals while playing a season-high 33 minutes.
In Saturday’s 85-66 win over Seton Hall, Wright scored 15 points and grabbed a team-high five rebounds. The Preseason ACC Rookie of the Year also netted a career-best five steals and career-best five assists.
After eight games, Wright is second in team scoring with 13.4 ppg. She also grabs 4.9 rpg and is second in assists with 24. She has started all eight games for the Cavaliers.
The ACC weekly honor is the second for Wright this season.
Virginia (6-2) travels to Marshall (6-2) on Tuesday, Dec. 5 for a 7 p.m. at the Cam Henderson Center. The Virginia Radio Network will broadcast the game live.
