Virginia Softball Signs Allee Rife

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia head softball coach Karen Johns has announced the signing Allee Rife (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) to a national letter of intent with UVa during the early signing period. Rife, a left-handed pitcher/first baseman, will enroll at Virginia for the 2007-08 academic year.
Rife, 5-11, has been a starter at pitcher and first base throughout her career at Chambersburg Area High School. She served as a team captain in 2006 and earned Mid Penn Conference First Team honors as a pitcher in 2005 and 2006. Rife was also named a first-team pitcher by the Public Opinion in 2005 and 2006 and has captured the publication’s Athlete of the Week award three times for her exploits on the softball diamond. The Patriot News selected Rife to its Big 11 first-team in 2006 and she was a second-team pick in 2005. Rife was Chambersburg Area’s starting pitcher in the state semifinals in 2005 and 2006, while starting at first base in the state finals in 2004.
Rife is also an excellent basketball player, starting at center for Chambersburg Area all four years. A team captain in 2006 and 2007, she earned Mid Penn Conference and Herald Mail first-team accolades in 2006. Rife was a second-team Mid Penn Conference and Patriot News Big 15 second-team pick in 2005.
Rife played travel softball for the Newtown Rock Gold in 2006 and was a member of the Hatboro-Horsham Banshees in 2005.
She is listed in Who’s Who Among High School Students and has been a member of the student Honor Roll the last two years. Rife also serves in the student government at Chambersburg Area High School.
“Allee is an explosive hitter, who hits with a tremendous amount of power,” said Johns. “She will also be a force on the mound and will add a left-handed thrower to our staff.”
Johns has already announced the signing of catcher/utility player Jennifer Lapicki (Oldwick, N.J./Immaculata), utility player Lauren McCaskey (Santa Barbara, Calif./Dos Pueblos), and outfielder/first baseman Courtney Pettit (Deer Park, Texas/Deer Park).
