NEW YORK, N.Y. – Reuben Jones (Charlottesville, Va.) ran the second-fastest 60m dash in school history, qualifying for the semifinals at the New Balance Invitational in New York, N.Y. at the Armory. His 6.80 is just .09 off the school record of 6.71 set by Shay Clark in 2001.

Teammate Janne’a Bridgeford (Upper Darby, Pa.) also qualified for the semis of the 60m, running a season-best 7.62. Her teammates Talia Wise (Newport News, Va.) , Galyn Iloka (Rockledge, Fla.) and Tiffany Roberts (Jamestown. N.C.) all also ran faster than the previous season-best for the Cavaliers. Eddy Nicolas (West Hempstead, N.Y.) ran a 49.35 in the 400m and became the first Cavalier to clear 50 seconds in 2007.

All-American Tomika Ferguson (Evergreen, Va.) tied her season-best long jump with her 18′ 9″, while Kathryn Pettine (Centreville, Va.) tied her personal best mark in the pole vault with an 11′ 9.75″, giving her runner-up honors. Arthur Gennari (Housatonic,. Mass) also tied a personal-best mark in the vertical jumps, clearing 6′ 5″ in the high jump. Matt Gambale (Alexandria, Va.) ran a personal-best 15:06.02 in the 5000m. In the shot put, Yemi Ayeni (Kendall Park, N.J.) won his flight and was 2.75″ off his personal record with his 51′ 6.5″, while school-record holder Billie-Jo Grant (Arroyo Grande, Calif.) finished fourth with her 50′ 8″.

The Cavaliers continue action at the New Balance Invitational tomorrow (Sat., Feb. 3) at the Armory.
