The Extra Mile with Lauretta Dezubay
Story Links
Lauretta Dezubay, a third-year on the cross country team, finished in 14th place and was the second runner across the line for the Cavaliers at the prestigious Roy Griak Invitational. A two-time NCAA participant, Dezubay and the rest of the Cavaliers will compete this weekend at the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet at Indiana State as the Hoos look to return to the NCAA Championships in November.
Years I have been running competitively: Seven total (four in high school, three in college)
My favorite place to run: Towath in Pennsylvania. It runs along the Lehigh River, and it is so peaceful and flat!
My most memorable race: 2005 NCAA Southeast Regional meet
The race I would like to run: 5000m at NCAA National Track and Field Championships
My favorite Olympic event: Figure skating
My favorite book: The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald
My favorite pre-race meal: Turkey sandwich
If I didn’t run, I would be: Doing more volunteer work with Just For Kicks or other children with disabilities or taking more piano lessons
My favorite place at UVa: The gardens off of the East side of the lawn
When I don’t run, I: Sleep, eat and do things unrelated to running with the team
