Cavaliers Climb to Fifth at Mercedes-Benz Championships

Knoxville, TN For the second consecutive day the Virginia women’s golf team shot 10-over 294 which allowed the Cavaliers to move up to fifth place entering Sunday’s final round at Tennessee’s Mercedes-Benz Women’s Championships at the Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville. Virginia is 11 shots behind Florida which leads the 17-team field at 577.
Virginia’s Lene Krog carded an even-par 71 for the second straight day to improve to fourth overall in stroke play. Calle Nielson is 25th overall at 148 following a 77 Saturday. Joy Kim improved to 37th thanks to a second round 73. She is tied with teammate Kristen Simpson at 150 overall. Simpson shot 74 during the second round. Carly Truitt is in 56th place at 152. She had a 76 Saturday.
Alabama’s Kathleen Ekey holds a two-shot lead on the rest of the field for medalist honors. She shot 1-under 70 Saturday and stands at 4-under 138. Sandra Gal of Florida and Stacy Lewis of Arkansas are second at 140, two shots ahead of Krog.
