CHARLOTTESVILLE The ITA Wilson Mideast Region Championships will continue on Thursday at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club as play begins in the main draw of singles and doubles.

Two Cavaliers advanced on the first day of main draw singles on Thursday. Lee Singer (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) topped Damien Lacombe of VCU 7-5, 7-5. Ted Angelinos (Athens, Greece) defeated Trey Chapman of North Carolina Central 6-0, 6-0. They will compete in the round of 64 on Friday, as will Dominic Inglot (London, England), Sanam Singh (Chandigarh, India), Michael Shabaz (Fairfax, Va.), and Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.), who all had first round byes.

In doubles, all three Cavalier teams in the main draw won in the first round on Thursday. The team of Inglot and Barrick, the draw’s No. 5 seed topped Chad Simpson and Louis Steyn of Liberty 8-1. No. 15 seeded Shabaz and Singh defeated Carlos Alvarez and Ike Belk of Clemson 8-2. Singer and Angelinos were 8-4 winners over Gabriel Groh and Alin Zorilla-Ditoi of Hampton.

Play begins at 8 a.m. Friday and admission is free.
