PHILADELPHIA, Pa.The Philly Classic, an inaugural basketball tournament on Thanksgiving weekend featuring college teams from the East, has announced that tickets for the Championship Rounds at the University of Pennsylvania’s historic Palestra are now on sale.

The 2007 tournament features eight schools, including Drexel, Howard, Loyola, Navy, Robert Morris, Seton Hall, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

The Philly Classic is a homecoming for three members of the Virginia team who played at Philadelphia area schools during their high school careers. Senior guard Sean Singletary and freshman guard Sammy Zeglinski played at The William Penn Charter School, and freshman guard Jeff Jones played at Monsignor Bonner High School.

The Philly Classic’s Championship Round games are scheduled at The Palestra on Nov. 23-24. The tournament’s preliminary games will be played at participating schools from Nov. 11-20.

On Nov. 23, Howard plays Loyola and Drexel meets Robert Morris in an afternoon session with Navy meeting Seton Hall and Virginia playing Pennsylvania in the evening. The winners and losers in each session play each other on Nov. 24 with the same four teams playing in the afternoon and evening. The tournament will have two champions.

Teams in each session will play two games against teams from the other session prior to the games in Philadelphia. On Nov. 11, Navy plays at Drexel and Pennsylvania is at Loyola. Robert Morris plays at Navy and Howard is at Virginia on Nov. 14. On Nov. 17, Howard plays at Pennsylvania, and on Nov. 18 Robert Morris is at Seton Hall. Loyola plays at Seton Hall on Nov. 20 and Drexel is at Virginia. The results of these games have no bearing on the pairings in Philadelphia.

The Hoop Group, which organizes instructional clinics, high school events and college tournaments, created The Philly Classic.
