The Virginia field hockey team fell to No. 3/4 Wake Forest today by a 3-0 count in Winston-Salem. The Cavaliers (9-8) were led by Katherine Bounds’ two defensive saves, while Devon Burnley and Amy Desjadon combined for six saves and Lauren Elstein added a defensive save. Both teams took two short corners in the second half. Three different Wake Forest (11-4, 2-2 ACC) players scored in the game.

The Demon Deacons put two on the board in the first half as Chelsea Cipriani converted a Minou Gimbrere pass at 20:15, and then just before the half, Melissa Martin snuck in a goal at 32:06.

Wake struck again early in the second half as Emily Cummings scored on a broken corner at 39:36.

The Virginia press following the third goal kept the Demon Deacons out of the circle as the Cavaliers continued to pressure the Demon Deacons, but the hosts were able to keep the Hoos out of the cage.

Virginia falls to 9-7 overall and will return home on Saturday, October 27 to host the Duke Blue Devils. Game time is 1 p.m.
