CHARLOTTESVILLE The Virginia women’s tennis team had a doubles team advance during Sunday’s play at the ITA East Regional in Norfolk, Va. The team of Lindsey Pereira (Arlington, Texas) and Maggie Yahner (Las Vegas, Nev.) moved into the quarterfinals with their win Sunday.

In the round of 16 on Sunday, the fourth seeded Cavalier duo defeated No. 16 seed Ivana King and Rebecca Parks of Princeton 8-3. They will play Jesse Adler and Mary Beth Winingham of Dartmouth on Monday. The other Cavalier team in action on Sunday, the No. 9 seeded team of Jennifer Stevens (Miami, Fla.) and Amanda Rales (Bethesda, Md.) fell to third seeded Kellie Schmitt and Karolina Soor of Marshall 8-2.

In singles, both Virginia players competing fell on Sunday. Pereira, seeded No. 28, won her first match of the day, defeating Olena Leonchuk of VCU 6-2, 6-4. However, in her second match she lost in the round of 32 to sixth seeded Kate Kosiminskaya of Penn 6-3, 6-2. Stevens, the No. 17 seed, fell in the round of64 to Sarah Mayer of Siena, 6-1, 6-2.

The tournament continues on Monday and runs through Tuesday.
