Wilmington, NC The Virginia men’s golf team shot 309 during the opening round of play at UNC Wilmington’s Landfall Tradition to stand ninth overall. Tulsa tops the leaderboard at 2-under 286. The Golden Hurricane hold a six shot advantage over second-place Georgia Southern.

Virginia was led during the opening round with an even-par 72 by freshman Henry Smart. He was eighth overall after the first 18 holes. Kyle Stough shot 77 and is 33rd while Amory Davis and Greg Carlin both shot 80 to tie for 47th. Conrad Von Borsig is 54th at 10-over 72.

Tulsa’s Nicholas Geyger posted the first round’s best score with a 5-under 67 to hold a four-stroke advantage over a pack of six players tied at 71.

The second round of the tournament will take Saturday with the final round Sunday.
