UVa Women in Second Place at Landfall Tradition

Wilmington, NC Thanks to all five players finishing in the top-25, the Virginia women’s golf team is in second place after the opening round of The Landfall Tradition in Wilmington. The Cavaliers shot 2-over 290 and trail only 12th-ranked Purdue by three shots. Virginia, ranked 25th, is the tournament’s defending champion.

Virginia was led by freshman Calle Nielson who shot 2-under 70 on the damp Country Club of Landfall course. Junior Lene Krog is one shot behind Nielson in fourth place and Kristen Simpson was tied for 10th at 2-over 74. Jennie Arseneault is 14th at 75 and Whitney Neuhauser is 23rd at 76.

Purdue’s Chrisel Boeljon shot 4-under 68 to take the early lead in stroke play. Laura Crawford is second at 69, one shot ahead of Nielson.

The second round of the tournament will take Saturday with the final round Sunday.
