Wilmington, NC The Virginia men’s golf team wrapped up its fall season by tying for eighth at UNC Wilmington’s Landfall Tradition tournament. The Cavaliers shot 17-over 305 during Sunday’s final round for a three-day total of 903. Kansas was also eighth. Virginia Tech won a tiebreaker with defending tournament champion Tulsa to take first-place honors at 872.

Virginia was led by the 14th-place finish of Kyle Stough. The Cavalier sophomore shot 78 Sunday to finish at 5-over 221. He carded a 6-under 66 Saturday to post the best round of his collegiate career. It was also the lowest 18-hole score during the tournament. Stough’s performance marked the second time in his career he has led UVa in scoring.

Cavalier freshman Henry Smart was 24th at 225. Conrad Von Borsig had UVa’s best final-round score, shooting 1-over 73 in the windy conditions, to move up to 29th at 227. Greg Carlin was 44th at 232 including a 77 during the final round. Freshman Amory Davis was 53rd at 238.

Tulsa’s Nicholas Geyger won medalist honors by five shots. He posted a 72 Sunday after opening with scores of 67 and 68 for a three-day total of 9-under 207.

Virginia opens the spring portion of its schedule March 2 in Tallahassee, Fla. at the Seminole Intercollegiate.
