COLUMBUS, Ohio The Virginia men’s tennis team continued its strong play at the ITA National Indoor Championships Friday at The Racquet Club of Columbus. The Cavaliers had a player advance to the singles semifinals and one team advance to the doubles semifinals of the prestigious tournament.

In the morning, the top ranked team of Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) and Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) topped Andy Connelly and Ross Cunningham of Tulsa 8-5 in the quarterfinals Friday. On Saturday, they will play North Carolina’s Taylor Fogelman and Chris Kearney in the semifinals.

In singles, top seeded Devvarman made history on the day as he advanced to the semifinals. His two wins on Friday gives him 125 career singles victories, tying the Virginia school record set by Brian Vahaly (1998-2001). In the round of 16, he defeated Michael James of Penn State 6-3, 6-4. Later in the day, he topped Dalibor Pavic of Drake 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. He will play Alex Clayton of Stanford in the semifinals Saturday.

Dominic Inglot (London, England) advanced to the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket on Friday. On Friday, he defeated Travis Helgeson of Georgia 6-3, 6-4, the only player this season to defeat Devvarman.

The tournament will continue on Saturday and concludes Sunday.
