CHARLOTTESVILLEThe Virginia women’s rowing team’s novice “A” crew won the 4,000-meter novice eight head race by a wide margin in competition against novice crews from Georgetown and George Washington on Saturday (Nov. 3) at the Rivanna Reservoir.

Virginia’s “A” boat won the novice eight competition with a time of 14:26.60 with Georgetown’s “A” boat second (15:53.34) and George Washington’s “A” boat third (16:08.45). Other eights competing in the race were the Georgetown lightweight “A” (16:54.09), Virginia “B” (17:40.23), George Washington “B” (17:44.90), Georgetown “B” (17:55.47), Georgetown lightweight “B” (18:17.66) and George Washington “C” (19:05.44). Virginia’s novice four also participated in the competition and finished with a time of 16:44.26.

UVa’s “A” boat was comprised of coxswain Christie Candland, Susie Chalker, Christine Roper, Jenn Lampen, Ellie Giles, Lauren Heimburg, Alyssa Smith, Jillian Trigg and Lieve Pitts.

The Cavaliers’ “B” boat was made up of coxswain Heba Girgis, Colleen Bauk, Claire Montaigne, Katie Seckinger, Edi Umoh, Natalie Booth, Dominque Quarles, Lauren Laessig and Laura Hendrie.

Virginia’s novice four crew was comprised of coxswain Han Vo, Colleen Beichert, Hannah Jenkins, Ariane Casper and Haley Pack.

The UVa women’s rowing team completes the fall portion of its 2007-08 schedule on Nov. 11 when the Cavaliers host the Rivanna Romp at the Rivanna Reservoir. Teams from Georgetown, Miami, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia are expected to compete in the regatta that is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
