Defensive end Chris Long has been named the ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week for his play in Virginia’s 17-16 win over then No. 21-ranked Wake Forest Saturday afternoon. This is the second time in the last three weeks he has received the award; he also was the league’s weekly winner following Virginia’s win over Maryland on Oct. 20.

Long was a disruptive force against the Demon Deacons and tied his career high with 10 tackles, including two for loss. He also had a sack and three quarterback pressures. With Long on the edge, the Cavalier defense held the Demon Deacons to just 2.8 yards per rush and 315 total yards of offense, well below their season averages.

One of the top defensive players in the nation, Long is fifth in the country in sacks (1.20/g), second among defensive linemen in passes defended (PBUs+INTs) with eight, third in PBU (seven) and third in tackling by a lineman with an average of 6.5 tpg.

The Cavaliers play their final road game of the season Saturday at Miami. The game is set to kickoff at 7:15 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
