HONOLULU, Hawaii Virginia fell to Hartford, 70-53, in the championship game of the Rainbow Wahine Classic Sunday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. Monica Wright, named to the all-tournament team, led the Cavaliers with 18 points and seven rebounds.

Also named to the all-tournament from Virginia was Lyndra Littles, who had seven points. Senior Sharnee Zoll added nine points and Aisha Mohammed had eight points and 12 rebounds.

Hartford shot 44.4 percent from the field and MaryLynne Schaefer scored 14 first-half points to lead the Hawks to a 38-32 lead heading into the locker room.

Virginia was unable to recover from the deficit and fell by a final score of 70-53.

Hartford was paced by Danielle Hood, who scored 19 points and was named the Rainbow Wahine Classic’s Most Valuable Player.

Virginia finished with a 2-1 record at the tournament, with impressive wins over No. 21/22 Texas and Minnesota.

Virginia’s next game will be against Wisconsin at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Friday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m. in John Paul Jones Arena.
