CHARLOTTESVILLE Playing in its 27th-consecutive NCAA Tournament, the Virginia men’s soccer team will face West Virginia in the second round on Wednesday night. Kick-off from Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown is 7 p.m., and live stats will be available.

The Cavaliers (12-7-2/1-5-2 ACC) defeated Saint Peter’s, 3-1, in their first-round game on Nov. 23. Dane Murphy scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute, while Chris Tierney had a goal and an assist and Jeremy Barlow notched two assists.

Tierney is having a career year, as he has netted seven goals and added seven assists for 21 points. With the Cavaliers’ leading scorer, Yannick Reyering, out with a knee injury, Tierney has picked up the offensive slack and become UVa’s most dangerous scoring threat.

The Mountaineers (13-5-2/7-3-1 BIG EAST) earned a first-round bye and are seeded 15th in this year’s tournament. They are making their third-straight NCAA appearance and are led by Dan Stratford and Andy Wright with five goals apiece.

Virginia leads the all-time series with WVU, 5-1-0, including a 2-1 overtime victory last year in Charlottesville.

The winner of Wednesday’s match advances to the third round of the NCAA Tournament and will face the winner of Furman vs. second-seeded Wake Forest.
