CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Virginia volleyball player Sarah Kirkwood was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-East Region Team. The honor is the second for Kirkwood, who also was twice tabbed an honorable mention selection in 2004 and 2006.

Kirkwood, a four-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer, led Virginia with 4.51 kills per game this season. The Tampa, Fla., native also set program records for career kills, attack attempts and service aces.

The Rhodes finalist also was the first Virginia volleyball player to earn Academic All-America honors, and recently was named to the second team for the third national honor of her career.

Virginia finished with an 18-13 record in 2007, including a 13-9 mark in conference play.

Clemson’s Jolene Jordan Hoover was selected as the East Regional Coach of the Year while Felicia Willoughby of Virginia Tech was tabbed the Freshman of the Year. A total of 11 players from five ACC schools were named to the AVCA East All-Region Team.
