CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Virginia baseball’s David Adams (Jr., Margate, Fla.) and Jacob Thompson (Jr., Danville, Va.) have been named to the preseason release of the 2008 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award Watch List.

Thompson, a right-hander, was a semifinalist for the Wallace Award last year. He went 11-0 with a 1.50 earned run average in 2007. Thompson was a consensus First-Team All-American and capped off his season by competing for the U.S. National Team at the Pan American Games.

Adams, an infielder, tied for sixth in the ACC in batting last season with a .372 average and earned second-team All-ACC honors. He hit five home runs and drove in 43 runs. He tied for the team lead with 84 hits and four triples.

The Wallace Award is a dedication to the memory of the former Texas Tech player and assistant coach Brooks Wallace, who died of cancer at age 27. The award will be presented July 3 in Lubbock, Texas. Vanderbilt pitcher David Price was the recipient of the 2007 award.

Virginia opens the 2008 season at home Feb. 22 vs. Lehigh.
