Abdulrazaaq hurdles into top-10 all-time for second consecutive week

Virginia’s Adams Abdulrazaaq moved into the top-10 in school history for the second consecutive week as he ran an 8.26 in the 60-meter hurdles, taking eighth at the Maryland Invitational today as the Cavaliers competed in College Park. Virginia placed two in the top-eight in four events, including the women’s 60-meter dash and the men’s mile in which the Cavaliers went 4-5 in both.
First-years Rashawnda James and Kisha Garrick finished .01 apart in the 60-meter dash, running 7.86 and 7.87 respectively to run 4-5. Garrick also took eighth in the long jump with her 17’ 2.75”, just behind teammate Katie Tershel, who took seventh with 17’ 6”. Stephanie Garcia, the reigning national champion in the junior women’s steeplechase, was the highest finisher on the women’s side as she took third in the mile with a 5:02.27. Ayla Smith and Assiatu Williams were both top-eight finishers in two events. Smith was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with an 8.80 and eighth in the 800 after running a 2:20.51 while Williams scored in both the high jump (4th, 5’ 5”) and triple jump (8th, 35’ 7.25”)
On the men’s side Michael Hagos set a season-best mark for Virginia in the mile as he finished fourth in 4:17.64, nipping teammate Chris Clark, who was fifth in 4:18.07. Three Cavaliers took third, including Conlon Bonner in the 200 (22.81), Eric Pickle in the shot put (48’ 2.5”), and Marcus Robinson in the triple jump (45’ 11.75”). Arthur Gennari and Meikle Paschal went 4-8 in the high jump, leaping 6’ 6.75” and 6’ 2.75”, respectively.
The Cavaliers will compete next weekend, Jan. 25-26, as some of the squad will travel to State College, Pa. to run in the Penn State National Open while others will trek to Lynchburg to compete in the On Track Invitational.
