CHARLOTTESVILLE The top ranked Virginia men’s tennis team hosts a pair of matches this weekend at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. On Friday, the Cavaliers host No. 47 Kentucky at 6 p.m. and host No. 51 Harvard on Sunday morning at 11 a.m.

The Cavaliers have opened the season with a 5-0 record and retained their No. 1 national ranking, receiving every first place for the second consecutive week. Last week, Virginia downed intrastate rival VCU 7-0 on Friday before downing then No. 21 Michigan 5-2 Sunday in Ann Arbor. Virginia is the only team in the nation to have defeated three teams currently ranked in the top 20 already this season, downing all three on the road (Notre Dame, Illinois, Michigan).

Kentucky is 4-2 this season, after dropping a mid-week match at Indiana 4-3. Last weekend the Wildcats suffered their first loss of the season to an ACC opponent, suffering a 4-3 home loss to Miami.

Harvard is 2-0 this season and moved up to No. 51 this week from No. 75 after upsetting then No. 38 William & Mary 4-3 in Boston last weekend. The Crimson have also defeated Purdue this year.

This week’s matches are the final tune-ups for the Cavaliers before next week’s ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Seattle. Virginia is expected to be the No. 1 seed in the 16-team tournament when the draw is announced on Friday.
