CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Virginia’s Rocco Caponi (Jr., Uniontown, Ohio) has been named ACC Wrestler of the Week following his dominating performances Sunday against NC State and Duke. The honor is the second of the season for Caponi and the third of his career. He also earned wrestler of the week laurels this season on Nov. 13 and was honored during his freshman season on Jan. 10, 2005.

Caponi, wrestling at 184 pounds, notched two falls Sunday. He started with a pin of NC State’s Dane Coffee in 1:00, then topped it by pinning Duke’s John Barone is just 48 seconds. Caponi has posted four straight pins over the last two weeks and has needed just 4:39 total to do so.

Caponi now boasts a 34-2 record this season. He was ranked No. 12 nationally by W.I.N. Magazine and 13th by InterMat last week. He has racked up a career record of 89-24 and stands eighth in career wins at Virginia.

Virginia (18-4, 3-1 ACC) is off this week and returns to competition at 1 p.m. Feb. 24, playing host to No. 23 Maryland in the regular-season finale. With a win, the Cavaliers will tie the Terrapins for the ACC regular-season title.
