CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia softball team (2-8) embarks on its 11-day spring break trip beginning this weekend in Jacksonville, Fla. The Cavaliers will play five games in the JU Invitational before continuing on to Georgia Tech and Louisville, Ky.

Play begins in Jacksonville Friday with two games. The Cavaliers will battle North Florida at 12:15 p.m. before taking on Stony Brook at 2:45 at the JU Softball Complex.

On Saturday, UVa will play Coastal Carolina and Jacksonville before playing the host Dolphins for a second time Sunday in its final game of the tournament.

Virginia is coming off a 2-3 performance last weekend at the Tennessee Classic in Knoxville, Tenn. The squad tallied its first win of the season over Louisiana-Monroe and also beat Wager but fell to BYU and the fifth-ranked Volunteers twice over the course of the weekend. Lindsey Preuss and Kelly Haller led UVa at the plate in the tournament. Preuss led UVa with seven hits, including two home runs, while Haller recorded five hits and three RBI.

In the circle, third-year Karla Wilburn and first-year Allee Rife picked up wins last weekend.

After wrapping up play in Jacksonville, the Cavaliers will head to Atlanta to open Atlantic Coast Conference play against Georgia Tech Tuesday and Wednesday.
