COLLEGE PARK, Md. The Virginia women’s tennis team improved to 4-2 in the ACC with a 6-1 victory over Maryland Friday afternoon at the Tennis Center of College Park. The victory also evens the Cavaliers’ overall record at 8-8 this season.

Virginia opened the match by sweeping the three doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. Lindsey Pereira (Arlington, Texas) and Maggie Yahner (Las Vegas, Nev.) topped Karin Lundmark and Julia Huschke 8-1 at No. 2 doubles and Lara Alexander (London, England) and Hampton Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) defeated Maggie MacKeever and Oksana Krutiyenko 8-4 at No. 3 doubles to clinch the point. Amanda Rales (Bethesda, Md.) and Jennifer Stevens (Miami, Fla.) added a tiebreaker victory at No. 1 doubles against Michal Amir and Lisa Miller.

In singles, the Cavaliers scored four straight set wins to seal the victory. Rales defeated Amir 7-6, 7-5 at the No. 1 position to improve to 5-1 at No. 1 singles in ACC play. At No. 2 singles, Stevens posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Lundmark. Pereira also had a 6-3, 6-2 win, topping MacKeever at No. 3 singles. Alexander defeated Huschke 7-5, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Yahner rallied from dropping the first set for a 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over Miller at the No. 4 position.

The Cavaliers return to action on Sunday as they visit Boston College.
