CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Current second-year swimmer Eric Olesen and former Cavalier Stefan Hirniak are both set to compete in the Canadian Olympic Trials, which run Tuesday through Sunday in Montreal, Quebec.

Both swimmers do not swim until Wednesday at the Trials when Olesen and Hirniak will participate in the 400 free relay.

Olesen will also swim in the 400 medley relay, 100 free and 100 fly, where he is the No. 11 seed (56.06). Hirniak, a three-time All-American in the 200 fly at Virginia from 2004-07, will compete in the 100 fly, 200 fly, 100 free, 800 free relay and 400 medley relay in addition to the 400 free relay. Hirniak is seeded second in the 200 fly (1:58.76) and sixth in the 100 fly (54.82).

Over 700 athletes are participating in the Trials and about 28-30 swimmers are expected to make the team for Beijing. Additionally, a B group will be selected to compete in a tri-meet against athletes from France and Great Britain in Quebec City, Quebec later this summer.
