CHARLOTTESVILLELaurynas Mikalauskas, a forward/center for the Virginia men’s basketball team, is scheduled to undergo surgery to stabilize his left shoulder on Friday (April 4).

Mikalauskas will begin the rehabilitation process for the shoulder after surgery and is not expected to return to full contact basketball for five months.

The 6-8 Mikalauskas has played for Virginia the last three years. As a junior during the 2007-08 season, he played in the first nine games of the season before missing 13 games because of the shoulder injury. He returned to action for the final 11 games of the season and scored in double figures in six of those games. He had his second career double-double with career-high totals of 16 points and 13 rebounds in a loss at Miami on March 1.

For the 2007-08 season, Mikalauskas played in 20 games with one start. He averaged 7.1 points and 3.5 rebounds a game. He made 65.4 percent (53-81) of his shots from the field.

Mikalauskas is from Palanga, Lithuania.
