GREENSBORO, N.C. Virginia’s First Varsity Eight Crew was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Rowing Crew of the Week for the second week in a row Tuesday after defeating 9th-ranked Ohio State and 10th-ranked Michigan at the Big Ten/ACC Duals this past weekend at the Griggs Reservoir in Columbus, Ohio.

Virginia’s Varsity Eight+, ranked 3rd nationally, posted a time of 6:20.4 to defeat the Buckeyes (6:31.1) by more than 10 seconds. The Cavaliers then posted a time of 6:18.1 in defeating the 10th-ranked Wolverines.

The Virginia First Varsity Eight is composed of Caitlin Mixter (coxswain, Oakton, Va.), Jennifer Cromwell (Bellevue, Wash.), Rebecca Ryall (Auckland, New Zealand), Lauren Hutchins (North Vancouver, Canada), Kelsie Chaudoin (Germantown, Tenn.), Desiree Burns (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), Augusta Stratos (Charlottesville, Va.), Bridget Wandell (Clifton, Va.) and Katrin Sydlik (Schonebeck, Germany).

Virginia’s Varsity Eight+ was also honored as the ACC’s Crew of the week last week after defeating 6th-ranked Stanford and 18th-ranked UCLA at the PAC-10 Challenge in Redwood Shores, Calif. Their only loss of the season has been to No. 1-ranked California by little more than two seconds.

The 2008 ACC Women’s Rowing Championships are scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 19 at Lake Hartwell in Clemson. More information on the ACC Rowing Championships can be obtained at the official Atlantic Coast Conference websiteTheACC.com.
