Cavalier Men Remain in Ninth Place at ACC Golf Championships

New London, NC Despite shaving seven shots off of its first round score, the Virginia men’s golf team could not climb out of ninth place after 36 holes of play at the ACC Championships at the Old North State Club in New London, N.C. The Cavaliers shot 8-over 1-under 287 during Saturday’s second round for a two-day total of 581. Duke continues to lead the field at 557, one shot ahead of Florida State enter Sunday’s final round.
UVa freshman Will Collins turned in the team’s best score Saturday by shooting 3-under 69. He moved up to 30th place at even par 144. Greg Carlin shot 1-under 71 for the second straight day to improve to 14th at 142. Kyle Stough is in 41st place at 149, including a 74 Saturday. Conrad Von Borsig and Steven Rojas are tied for 43rd at 150. Von Borsig shot 73 during the second round while Rojas carded a 77.
Wake Forest’s Webb Simpson matched his previous round with another 68, to pace all players at eight-under 136. FSU’s Matthew Savage trails him by just one stroke. In all, 29 individuals are under par for the tournament.
