Bordley Named womenslacrosse.com Player of the Week

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Senior Claire Bordley has been named the womenslacrosse.com Player of the Week for the week of April 28. Bordley helped the Cavaliers to their third consecutive ACC Title as Virginia used a pair of second-half comebacks to hoist the trophy again.

In a second-round win over the three-seed, No. 11 Duke, Bordley was part of a defense that held the Blue Devils to one goal in the second half, while holding one of the league’s top scorers, Carolyn Davis, to a goal and an assist in the contest. Bordley also notched a draw control and scooped up a ground ball.
In the title game win over Maryland, Bordley and the Cavaliers allowed only two goals in the second half, en route to the upset victory. In the game, Bordley picked up two draw controls, two ground balls and caused two turnovers.
For her contributions, the All-ACC selection was also voted to the 2008 ACC All-Tournament Team.
Bordley anchors the Cavaliers’ to third nationally in scoring margin. She is second on the team in draw controls (28) and shares second on the team in ground balls (31). She has caused 18 turnovers this season.
Virginia (14-3, 4-1 ACC) shared the 2008 regular-season title with Maryland before upsetting the Terrapins in the tournament to claim the title and automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Selection Committee will announce on Monday, May 5 the bracket for the national tournament. First-round games will be played on the campus of the higher-seed on Sunday, May 11.
